ASA 101 Basic Keel Boat Sailing

Instruction for proficiency sailing boats up to 30ft. 50% of the session will be class room and 50% on the water.

Course dates:

Session 1: April 12, 20,21     9am-5pm  (3days)

Session 2:  May11,12,18,19  10am-4pm (4days)

Session 3:  June 8,9,15,16    10am-4pm (4days)

Session 4:  Aug 17,18,24,25  10am-4pm (4days)

 ASA sailing provides a high level of professional instruction to adults seeking a world recognized certification. The 101 course will help individuals to charter or rent sailboat up to 30 feet. 

Classes will be held at the Morro Bay Yacht Club. Cost: $525 per person.

Each session will include class room instruction and on the water sailing. Students will be instructed on an O’Day Daysailer and a Catalina 25. There will be 2-4 students per session.

Course will include sailing theory, points of sail, boat handling by tacking-jibing-running-stalling, docking, safety, rules of the road, person over board drill, knots, on board communication, pre-sail check list, and more.

At the end of the last session a comprehensive written exam will be offered to those participants that want to be ASA 101 Certified. The students will be charged an additional $39 for the certification.

The Instructor is Thomas Andersen. He has over 40 years of teaching experience. He has been an instructor at Gold Arrow children’s camp, offered Introduction to sailing through Clovis Adult School and California State University, Fresno.
